Melanie Stride-Noble Therapy

Services

I provide psychological and nutritional therapy for eating disorders, disordered eating, and metabolic conditions, including obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2DM), as well as individuals using weight loss treatments and those struggling to find balance and peace with food.

Together, we will work to restore a positive, balanced relationship with food and empower you to take control of your health and well-being.

These conditions include:

Binge Eating Disorder (BED)

Binge Eating Disorder (BED) is characterised by uncontrollable episodes of overeating, where large amounts of food are consumed quickly, often followed by feelings of guilt or sadness. Unlike other eating disorders, BED does not involve purging behaviours such as vomiting or using laxatives.

Signs BED may be affecting you:

  • Eating large amounts of food quickly
  • Feeling out of control during eating episodes
  • Hiding eating habits or feeling ashamed afterwards
  • Emotional distress like guilt or sadness related to food
  • Difficulty managing stress or emotions

How BED impacts well-being:

  • Increased health risks like heart disease and diabetes
  • Challenges in maintaining healthy relationships
  • Low self-esteem and body image issues
  • Feelings of depression, anxiety, or perfectionism

Why an Integrated Approach Matters:
My approach integrates psychological support, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and health coaching to address the root causes of binge eating and support sustainable change. Through psychodynamic therapy, we explore underlying emotional factors and unresolved conflicts. CBT helps identify and manage triggers, while health coaching provides actionable steps for developing a healthier relationship with food. Nutritional guidance ensures that your dietary needs are met while supporting your goals.

Compulsive Overeating

Compulsive overeating is a common issue where individuals eat frequently throughout the day, often feeling a lack of control. While it shares some similarities with Binge Eating Disorder (BED), compulsive overeating doesn’t always involve large binges.

Possible triggers of compulsive overeating:

  • Stress or anxiety
  • Hormonal changes
  • Emotional challenges

Why an Integrated Approach Matters:
Through a combination of psychological insight, CBT, and health coaching, I help clients uncover and address the underlying triggers of compulsive overeating. Together, we develop strategies for managing emotions, building positive habits, and setting realistic, sustainable goals. Nutritional support ensures you have a balanced plan that aligns with your needs and lifestyle.

Emotional Eating

Emotional Eating is a common way of coping with difficult emotions, providing temporary relief. However, it often leads to guilt or shame afterwards.

Characteristics of emotional eating:

  • Eating for comfort or to numb negative feelings
  • Using food as a way to manage stress or emotions
  • Experiencing little physical satisfaction despite eating

Why an Integrated Approach Matters:
I offer a compassionate, integrative approach to addressing emotional eating by combining psychological therapy with CBT and health coaching. Together, we explore the emotional roots of your eating patterns and build strategies to manage difficult feelings in healthier ways. By focusing on mindful eating and self-compassion, we work towards lasting change.

Night Eating Syndrome (NES)

Night Eating Syndrome (NES) involves consuming a significant portion of daily calories in the evening or at night. This may include waking up during the night to eat and struggling to control night-time eating habits.

Signs NES may be affecting you:

  • Consuming most daily calories late in the evening or at night
  • Waking up to eat during the night
  • Difficulty managing nighttime eating habits

Why an Integrated Approach Matters:
Using a combination of psychological therapy, CBT, and health coaching, I help clients uncover the emotional and behavioural triggers for NES. Together, we develop strategies to improve eating habits, regulate emotions, and restore healthy sleep patterns. Nutritional support is also provided to ensure your diet supports your overall well-being.

Bulimia Nervosa

Bulimia Nervosa is an eating disorder marked by uncontrollable episodes of overeating, followed by an intense urge to purge through behaviours like vomiting, laxatives, diuretics, fasting, or excessive exercise.

Signs that bulimia may be affecting you:

  • Regularly binge eating large amounts of food
  • Feeling disconnected or overwhelmed during eating episodes
  • Hiding eating habits or feeling ashamed
  • Engaging in purging, fasting, or excessive exercise to control weight
  • Experiencing guilt, shame, or self-hatred

Impact of bulimia:

  • Dental damage, gastrointestinal issues, and electrolyte imbalances
  • Low self-esteem and body image concerns
  • Co-occurring mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, or OCD

Why an Integrated Approach Matters:
Through a holistic approach combining psychological therapy, CBT, and health coaching, I support clients in breaking the cycle of binge-purge behaviours. We explore the emotional factors underlying bulimia and develop practical tools to manage triggers and emotions. Nutritional guidance ensures a balanced diet that supports recovery and well-being.

Orthorexia

Orthorexia is a condition where individuals become excessively focused on eating only “pure” or “healthy” foods, often adhering to rigid dietary rules.

Signs that orthorexia may be affecting you:

  • Constant preoccupation with the nutritional content of food
  • Anxiety or guilt when unable to eat the “right” foods
  • Social limitations due to concerns about food choices
  • Strict dieting rules and avoidance of certain foods
  • Health risks such as malnutrition or nutritional deficiencies

Why an Integrated Approach Matters:
By integrating psychological therapy, CBT, and health coaching, I help clients address the underlying anxieties and perfectionism driving orthorexia. We work together to build a more flexible, balanced approach to eating that supports both physical and emotional well-being. Nutritional support ensures you are meeting your dietary needs while restoring a positive relationship with food.

Medicalised Weight Management Support

Managing weight can be a complex journey, especially when undergoing medical treatments like weight loss injections (e.g., Mounjaro, Ozempic, Saxenda) or bariatric surgery. I provide holistic support before, during, and after these treatments, addressing both the psychological and nutritional aspects to ensure long-term success.

How I Can Help:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): Develop practical strategies to identify and manage unhelpful thoughts, emotional eating, and self-sabotaging behaviours.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy: Understand the deeper emotional and unconscious factors that influence eating behaviours, such as early experiences and attachment patterns.
  • Health Coaching: Set achievable goals aligned with your values and lifestyle, maintain accountability, and foster a positive mindset throughout your journey.
  • Nutritional Guidance: Receive tailored advice that complements your medical treatment plan, ensuring your diet supports your overall health and weight management goals.

Why an Integrated Approach Matters:
Weight management isn’t just about the physical changes—it’s about transforming your relationship with food, body, and self. By addressing the psychological, emotional, and nutritional factors, this approach ensures sustainable results and improved overall well-being.

Metabolic Disease Support

Conditions like obesity, type 2 diabetes (T2DM), and hypertension can significantly impact physical and emotional well-being. Managing these conditions requires a comprehensive approach that addresses lifestyle factors, emotional triggers, and the complex relationship between food, health, and behaviour.

How I Can Help:

  • Psychological Support: Understand and address the emotional and behavioural factors influencing your health. Explore your relationship with food, uncover emotional triggers, and build a foundation for lasting change.
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): Identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours that may hinder your progress. Learn strategies to manage emotional eating, stress, and self-sabotage while fostering a healthier mindset.
  • Health Coaching: Develop personalised, achievable goals that align with your values and lifestyle. Navigate the challenges of metabolic disease with practical strategies, accountability, and a focus on long-term success.
  • Nutritional Expertise: As a Registered Associate Nutritionist, I provide tailored advice to support your medical treatment plan. This includes creating dietary strategies that improve blood sugar control, support weight management, and promote overall cardiovascular health.

Why an Integrated Approach Matters:
Metabolic diseases like obesity, T2DM, and hypertension are complex conditions that require more than medical treatment alone. By addressing the psychological, emotional, and nutritional aspects of these diseases, you can achieve sustainable improvements in your health and well-being.
